Lowering GPU Requirements for PC
As announced on the game's German Twitter (X) account on January 19, 2025, Capcom is diligently working to enhance Monster Hunter Wilds' performance.
A video showcasing smoother gameplay during a Quematrice hunt highlights improvements to the PS5's Prioritize Framerate mode. This mode boosts frames per second (fps) at the expense of some graphical detail. Similar optimizations are underway for the PC version, with a specific goal of lowering the recommended GPU requirements. The Twitter (X) post stated, "Performance will be improved in a similar way and we are looking into whether we can lower the recommended GPU requirements."
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or an AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Successful optimization could significantly broaden accessibility, allowing players with lower-end or mid-range GPUs to enjoy the game.
Furthermore, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool to help players determine optimal settings and assess PC compatibility. This should alleviate concerns about needing costly hardware upgrades before playing Monster Hunter Wilds. For more in-depth information on Monster Hunter Wilds, check out our dedicated article.
Addressing Issues from the First Open Beta
The first Monster Hunter Wilds open beta, held in October and November 2024, encountered performance issues that drew criticism from players. Steam reviews cited low-poly character models and monsters, resulting in visuals considered subpar. Beyond low-resolution models, frame rate drops and other performance problems were also reported, even on high-end PCs. While some players found workarounds, these often came at the cost of visual fidelity.
Capcom acknowledged these concerns on November 1, 2024, stating, "The issue of afterimage noise occurring in certain environments when Frame Generation is enabled will be fixed in the full game, which is already in a more improved state compared to the beta test."
This improved state will hopefully be evident in the upcoming Open Beta Test 2, scheduled for February 7-10 and 14-17 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. This second beta will feature the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and a yet-to-be-revealed monster. However, the inclusion of the recent performance updates in this beta remains unconfirmed.
