Bloodborne PC Emulation Achieves Near-Stable 60 FPS

Digital Foundry's Thomas Morgan recently conducted a thorough evaluation of Bloodborne on the ShadPS4 emulator, focusing on the game's performance and the technical enhancements introduced by modders. For his tests, Morgan utilized the ShadPS4 0.5.1 build developed by diegolix29, which is based on a custom branch created by raphaelthegreat. This specific build was selected after testing multiple versions, as it delivered the best performance on a PC equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X processor and a GeForce RTX 4080 GPU.

To address visual glitches, such as stretched or misplaced polygons, Morgan advised installing the Vertex Explosion Fix mod. This mod, although it disables character face customization at the start of the game, effectively resolves these visual issues. Fortunately, no additional essential mods are needed since the emulator itself incorporates a comprehensive menu for managing various enhancements. Players can easily enable 60 fps support, boost the resolution to 4K, or turn off chromatic aberration from this menu.

Morgan observed that Bloodborne maintained a steady 60 fps on the ShadPS4 emulator, despite experiencing occasional stutters. He also experimented with higher resolutions, specifically 1440p and 1800p, which enhanced image detail but led to performance drops and frequent crashes. Consequently, Morgan suggests running Bloodborne at 1080p, mirroring the PS4's native resolution, or at 1152p for optimal performance.

In his concluding remarks, Morgan praised the ShadPS4 team for their remarkable achievement in making PS4 emulation possible. He noted that while Bloodborne runs impressively on the emulator, there are still some technical challenges to overcome.
