Dying Light Update Boosts Graphics, Sound This Week
Techland surprises fans by bringing players back to Harran after a decade with a free Retouched update for the original Dying Light, delivering fresh refinements.
On June 26, 2025, loyal players of the 2015 zombie-parkour classic will enjoy comprehensive upgrades elevating the entire experience. The Dying Light: Retouched update features visual polish, a remastered soundtrack, and enhancements for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. IGN has reached out to Techland regarding potential Nintendo Switch compatibility.
Let's clarify: the Retouched Update enhances what you already adore about Dying Light—it's not rebuilding from scratch.
While thrilling for longtime fans, Techland emphasizes Retouched isn't a full remaster. Franchise director Tymon Smektała explains this refresh maintains the original system requirements while elevating visual and auditory elements.
"After seeing online reactions following the update reveal, I realized we needed clarity," Smektała noted in a recent blog post. "This isn't about reinventing Dying Light—it's about perfecting its existing brilliance through thoughtful refinements."
Visual upgrades include richer textures, dynamic lighting, and detailed shadows—from weathered wooden fences to realistic metal reflections. Techland particularly highlights improvements to flooring and concrete surfaces now displaying unprecedented depth.

Original composer Paweł Blaszczak revisited the soundtrack, re-recording all tracks on analog tape alongside new ambient effects and combat audio refinements.
"Many asked why this update took months," the post continued. "The truth? We mastered decade-old tech—applying modern expertise without compromising stability proved challenging yet rewarding."
The Retouched update demonstrates Techland's commitment to a surprisingly enduring title. While SteamDB shows peak concurrents at 45,876, Dying Light consistently maintains ~12,000 active players—remarkable for a primarily single-player title eclipsing even Dying Light 2's current performance.
