Split Fiction Hits 2 Million Sales After Just 1 Week
Hazelight Games has announced that their latest co-op adventure, Split Fiction, has achieved remarkable sales, reaching 2 million copies sold within just one week of its release. Launched on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game has quickly established itself as a major success for the studio. Hazelight expressed their gratitude on social media, stating they are "blown away" by the overwhelming support from both new and returning fans.
The game's sales momentum was evident from the start, with Split Fiction selling 1 million copies in the first 48 hours. This means an additional million copies were sold in the subsequent five days, showcasing the game's strong appeal and market performance.
Split Fiction features a dual-protagonist narrative centered around characters Mio and Zoe in a sci-fi setting. The game's co-op nature means the actual number of players is likely much higher than the sales figures suggest, especially with the innovative Friend's Pass feature. This allows one player to buy the game and invite a friend to play for free, further expanding its reach and impact within the gaming community.
The success of Split Fiction follows in the footsteps of Hazelight's previous title, It Takes Two, which was named Game of the Year in 2021. It Takes Two sold approximately 1 million copies shortly after its launch in March 2021, eventually reaching 10 million copies by February 2023 and an impressive 20 million by October 2024.
In IGN's review of Split Fiction, the game was praised as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another," highlighting its dynamic and engaging gameplay experience.
