Konami's Silent Hill f Gets 18+ Rating in Japan

Silent Hill f marks a first for the franchise by receiving an 18+ rating certification in Japan.

As shown in last night's Japanese reveal trailer, the game carries an Mature rating in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan - the country's strictest age classification.

While ratings may change during development (as spotted by Automaton), this distinction sets Silent Hill f apart from previous entries. The original Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room all held CERO:C ratings (15+), while other non-Japanese developed series entries typically received CERO:C or CERO:D (17+) classifications.

Notably, even Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 Remake - despite its Mature (17+) rating in Western markets - received only a CERO:C certification in Japan.

Konami's latest Silent Hill Transmission focused exclusively on Silent Hill f, marking the series' first mainline entry in 13 years. Announced in 2022, the game transports players to 1960s Japan, following teenager Shimizu Hinako as she grapples with societal pressures.

The trailer depicts Hinako in various states of distress - bloodied, wounded, and wearing a tattered school uniform. While primarily cutscene-based, it offered glimpses of the game's unsettling environments and grotesque creature designs, hinting at an Otherworld transfigured not by industrial decay but by crimson blossoms.

No release window was announced for Silent Hill f, and Konami provided no updates regarding No Code's Silent Hill: Townfall project.
