A Glimpse into Stromford and the Bauk

Following the Game Awards 2024, The Witcher 4 game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga spoke with Gamertag Radio's Parris. They confirmed the introduction of fresh environments and terrifying creatures.

Ciri's journey will lead players to previously unexplored areas of the Continent. The village showcased in the trailer is named Stromford, a place where a disturbing ritual involving child sacrifice takes place to appease their deity.

This deity, revealed as the monster Bauk, is inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a cunning and fearsome adversary. Beyond Bauk, players can anticipate a diverse range of new monsters.

While enthusiastic about these additions, Kalemba remained tight-lipped about specifics, promising a completely novel experience within the familiar setting of the Continent.

A subsequent interview with Skill UP on December 15, 2024, confirmed that The Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, it suggests Ciri's adventures will extend beyond Geralt's explored territories.

Revolutionizing NPC Interactions

Returning to the Gamertag Radio interview, Kalemba highlighted significant advancements in NPC development. Addressing the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3, he emphasized the increased diversity and depth in The Witcher 4. Each NPC will possess a unique backstory and life, influencing their interactions with Ciri and others, particularly within the close-knit community of Stromford.

CD Projekt Red is also enhancing NPC visuals, behavior, and facial expressions to create a more immersive experience.
