Kevin Edwards, a former Genepool Software employee, revealed unreleased images from a canceled Iron Man game slated for a 2003 release. The game's working title was "The Invincible Iron Man," a nod to the character's original comic book name. Edwards worked on the project following the release of the studio's X-Men 2: Wolverine’s Revenge.

His Twitter (X) post included the game's title card, Genepool Software's logo, and gameplay screenshots. A subsequent post showcased original Xbox gameplay footage, including the startup screen and a tutorial segment set in a desert environment.

Despite positive fan reaction to Edwards' posts, Activision canceled "The Invincible Iron Man" shortly after development began. Genepool Software subsequently closed, leaving the team unemployed.

While Activision never publicly explained the cancellation, Edwards offered several possible explanations in response to online comments: delays in the related film, dissatisfaction with the game's quality, or the possibility of another developer taking over the project.

Commenters also noted the stark difference between Tony Stark's in-game design and his later MCU portrayal. The game's design, predating Robert Downey Jr.'s iconic interpretation by almost five years, closely resembled the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book version from the early 2000s. Edwards stated the design choice was the artist's decision. He promised more gameplay footage but hasn't yet delivered.
