Switch 2 Rumors Fuel Nintendo

Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025

Nintendo has issued an unusual statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. The company confirmed that the images circulating online are not official, a simple yet noteworthy response given Nintendo's generally tight-lipped approach to leaks. This official denial highlights the fact that Nintendo wasn't a participant at CES 2025, rendering any Switch 2 material showcased there unofficial.

Leaks surrounding the Switch 2 have been prevalent since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. One notable leak featured a purported Switch 2 replica displayed by accessory maker Genki at CES. Pictures of this replica quickly spread across social media.

Following an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, Nintendo directly addressed the Genki replica, stating definitively that the images and videos are "not official." The company emphasized its absence from CES 2025, further solidifying the unofficial nature of the leaked materials.

Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?

While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors, suggesting potential validity. The most significant difference compared to the original Switch is its size (slightly larger) and the inclusion of an extra button. This new button, resembling the Joy-Con's capture button, is located below the home button and labeled "C," its purpose currently unknown.

Genki's CEO, Eddie Tsai, offered further speculation, claiming the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will use magnetic attachments instead of sliding rails, and function as mouse controls—a feature previously suggested by other sources.

Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, the official unveiling remains imminent. Retail availability isn't anticipated before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
