Sony Unveils Films for Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn
At CES 2025, Sony unveiled exciting news for gaming and film enthusiasts: a movie adaptation of their hit game, Helldivers 2, is in the works. PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures are collaborating on this project, promising to bring epic space battles to the big screen. Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, made the announcement, stating, “We are pleased to announce that we have begun development on a movie based on our incredibly popular game Helldivers 2.” Although specifics remain under wraps, fans are eagerly anticipating what this adaptation will bring.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a shooter game that draws inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. It has achieved remarkable success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling project by selling 12 million copies within just 12 weeks of its release. The game's popularity surged further with the introduction of the Illuminate update, which reintroduced a fan-favorite enemy faction from the original game.
In addition to the Helldivers 2 film, Sony also announced that a movie based on the acclaimed game Horizon Zero Dawn is in development. This project will be a joint effort between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures, the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie adaptation. Asad Qizilbash shared initial insights into the project, saying, “We are just starting to work on the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can already promise the audience: this world and its characters will be presented in a cinematic format for the first time.”
These announcements signal Sony's continued commitment to expanding their gaming IPs into cinematic experiences, much to the excitement of fans worldwide.
