New 2025 Words Added to Cambridge Dictionary

Skibidi, broligarchy, inspo, delulu, and several other terms have officially been added to the Cambridge Dictionary's growing list of new words for 2025.

Some of the dictionary's recent additions, which you can now look up and read definitions for yourself, reflect language that has been circulating in internet-savvy communities over the past year or so. These are terms you might have encountered on platforms like TikTok or Instagram. While their popularity is often linked to Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences, many have already entered mainstream conversation.

For example, you can now rest assured that "skibidi"—a peculiar term originating from YouTuber DaFuq!?Boom!'s Skibidi Toilet series—is officially recognized and defined by the Cambridge Dictionary. It's one of over 6,000 new entries added in the past year, defined as "a word that can take on different meanings, such as 'cool' or 'bad,' or be used humorously without any real meaning."

“Phrases like ‘What the skibidi are you doing?’ and ‘That wasn’t very skibidi rizz of you’ are now part of everyday language,” Cambridge University stated today. “Last October, Kim Kardashian shared a social media video showing a necklace from her daughter engraved with the phrase ‘Skibidi Toilet’.”

Other notable new entries include "broligarchy," which refers to influential groups of powerful men and tech leaders—such as Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and Mark Zuckerberg—who seek to shape political influence; and tradwife, an abbreviated form of "traditional wife." Other widely adopted abbreviations now in the dictionary include "inspo" (short for inspiration) and "delulu" (short for delusional). There’s also the word lewk, which describes someone's personal style or outfit.

“It isn't every day you see words like skibidi and delulu make it into the Cambridge Dictionary," said Colin McIntosh, Lexical Programme Manager at Cambridge Dictionary. "We only include terms we believe will stand the test of time. Internet culture is reshaping the English language, and it’s fascinating to document this evolution in the dictionary.”

While this collection of words may surprise some, each has clearly played a significant role in digital dialogue for some time. As unusual as some may find them, this is by no means the first instance of internet slang making its way into official lexicons. For example, "isekai"—an anime genre where the main character is transported to another world—was added to the Oxford English Dictionary last year. Words like "emoji" and "clickbait" joined Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary back in 2015.
