Our Take on an RTX 5080-Powered Gaming Laptop

While we haven’t tested the latest Lenovo Legion Pro, we’ve evaluated a gaming laptop with the RTX 5080 GPU. The RTX 5080 offers a modest improvement over the RTX 4080 in raw performance but shines in games supporting DLSS 4.0 with multi-frame generation. We tested the Gigabyte Aorus Master, which shares the same 150W TGP rating and 2560x1600 display as the Legion Pro 7i, suggesting comparable gaming performance.

Gigabyte Aorus Master 16" RTX 5080 Laptop Review by Chris Coke

"Nvidia emphasizes the 50-series’ AI-driven features over raw rendering power. While the RTX 5080’s performance is close to the RTX 4080, it excels in games with multi-frame generation. This technology, often called "fake frames," significantly boosts performance when implemented well. Results vary by game—Alan Wake 2 may feel slightly laggy at higher settings, while Cyberpunk 2077 runs smoothly. With neural shaders and other advancements on the horizon, investing in this tech is a bet on future game support, though it relies on Nvidia and developers expanding compatibility."
