Meguro, a veteran composer at Atlus since 1995 (working on titles like Shin Megami Tensei and Persona), transitioned to indie development in 2021 while maintaining his involvement with Atlus. Guns Undarkness, a sci-fi stealth action JRPG published by Kodansha Game Creators Lab, was initially unveiled at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021 and successfully concluded its Kickstarter campaign in 2022.
The demo, launching February 24th, 2025, offers approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, encompassing tutorials on controls, the battle system, weaponry, and early-game strategies. Early Access is planned for Spring 2025 on PC, with roughly 10 hours of gameplay expected at launch. A precise release date is yet to be announced.
Metal Gear Solid and Persona Inspiration
Guns Undarkness blends turn-based tactical combat with stealth mechanics, drawing inspiration from Metal Gear Solid and the Persona series. Set in a dystopian 2045, players assume the role of a private military contractor, undertaking missions alongside allies to unravel the world's mysteries and avert a catastrophic future. The gameplay seamlessly integrates stealth sections, where undetected movement grants combat advantages, with turn-based battles utilizing firearms.
