Palworld F2P Talks Terminated, Game to Stay Buy-to-Play
Following reports of potential changes, Palworld developer Pocketpair has definitively stated that the game will remain a buy-to-play title and will not transition to a free-to-play (F2P) or Games-as-a-Service (GaaS) model.
Palworld Remains Buy-to-Play
In a recent Twitter (X) statement, Pocketpair clarified its position, emphasizing that the buy-to-play model is integral to the game's design and that a shift to F2P/GaaS would require extensive, impractical modifications. The developer acknowledged previous discussions regarding alternative models, explaining that these conversations occurred several months ago and represented an exploration of potential long-term strategies. However, the decision to retain the current model was made after careful consideration of player preferences and development feasibility.
The team reiterated its commitment to creating the best possible Palworld experience, apologizing for any anxiety caused by earlier reports. Future development will be supported by the exploration of cosmetic DLC and skins, with further community discussions planned before implementation.
Future Plans and Potential PS5 Version
While the F2P/GaaS model is off the table, Pocketpair has confirmed ongoing plans for future content updates, including new Pals and raid bosses. Furthermore, a potential PS5 version of Palworld has been mentioned in a preliminary list of titles for the Tokyo Game Show 2024 (TGS 2024), though this remains unconfirmed.
Pocketpair's statement assures fans that their feedback is valued, and the studio remains dedicated to delivering a high-quality and enjoyable Palworld experience.
