Nintendo Switch 2: Genki CEO Drops New Insights
Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Features
Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design features. CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed details gleaned from a black market acquisition of the console, providing insights into the upcoming device.
The mockup demonstrated a larger console, approaching the size of the Valve Steam Deck. Key features included magnetically attached Joy-Con controllers, a second USB-C port, and an intriguing new "C" button of unknown function. Tsai specifically confirmed the magnetic nature of the SL and SR buttons on the Joy-Con, utilizing a pin-release mechanism for detachment. Despite the magnetic design, the Joy-Con reportedly maintain a secure connection during gameplay.
Enhanced Joy-Con Functionality:
Genki's presentation highlighted optical sensors integrated into the Joy-Con's mounting channels. This suggests potential functionality as a mouse, possibly through a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked Switch 2 images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors.
Compatibility and Dimensions:
While the Switch 2 is larger than its predecessor, it's still thin enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, structural differences prevent compatibility; the new console won't function correctly with the original dock.
Unknowns Remain:
The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the mysterious "C" button remains unclear, even to Genki.
