Nintendo Switch 2 Camera: 1080p vs. Hori's 480p Piranha Plant Model

Hori's Nintendo Switch 2 Piranha Plant camera offers a resolution of just 480p, which is significantly lower than the 1080p resolution of Nintendo's official Switch 2 camera. The UK My Nintendo Store has confirmed these resolutions, highlighting the stark difference between the two.

Despite its lower resolution, Hori's Piranha Plant camera, which is officially licensed by Nintendo, comes at a more affordable price compared to Nintendo's $49.99 camera. It's also compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 5, along with other USB-C cameras. A unique feature of the Piranha Plant camera is its detachable webcam, which can be placed directly on top of the Switch 2, adding a level of portability that Nintendo's camera does not offer. Additionally, the camera's lens can be obscured by closing the plant's mouth.

The revelation of the Piranha Plant camera's 480p resolution caused a stir among Nintendo fans. Social media users expressed disbelief and humor at the low resolution, with comments ranging from questioning the feasibility of such a camera in 2025 to joking that it might have been intended for the Wii U era.
