Players will once again take on the role of a shopkeeper, striving to transform their small store into a thriving business. To achieve this, they must delve into dungeons, battle formidable creatures, and collect rare artifacts.

Digital Sun has promised that Moonlighter 2 will build upon the original's success by offering richer narratives and improved gameplay mechanics. The game's story centers on Will, the protagonist, who embarks on a quest to find his way back to his native dimension within the vast world of Trense. Along his journey, Will reconnects with familiar faces and forms new alliances. His adventure takes a turn when he encounters a mysterious trader who entrusts him with the mission to locate powerful relics that could lead him back home.
