Larian Unveils New Subclasses in Baldur's Gate 3

Larian Studios has surprised Baldur's Gate 3 fans by announcing a significant update slated for 2025, defying expectations that Patch 7 would be the final major update. This update is packed with exciting additions, including highly anticipated crossplay support and a much-requested photo mode. But the real highlight? A whopping twelve new subclasses, each promising unique and compelling gameplay mechanics.

While details on four subclasses have already been revealed, let's delve into the remaining eight: Oath of the Crown Paladin, Arcane Archer, Drunken Master Monk, and Swarmkeeper Ranger.

The Oath of the Crown Paladin embodies justice and societal well-being. Their signature ability, Divine Devotion, absorbs incoming damage meant for allies, simultaneously restoring their health—a powerful defensive and supportive option.

The Arcane Archer masterfully blends martial skill with arcane magic. Their enchanted arrows are far from ordinary; they can blind, weaken, or even banish foes to the Feywild until their next turn. And if an arrow misses its mark? No problem! The Arcane Archer can redirect its flight path mid-air to strike a different enemy.

The Drunken Master Monk takes an unconventional approach, integrating alcohol into their fighting style. A signature move intoxicates opponents, leaving them disoriented while simultaneously boosting the monk's own capabilities. Using Instant Sobriety on an intoxicated enemy unleashes a devastating combination of physical and mental damage.

The Swarmkeeper Ranger commands the power of nature through alliances with various swarms of creatures. These swarms act as both shields, protecting the ranger from harm, and assist with teleportation. In combat, the Swarmkeeper can deploy three distinct swarm types: electric jellyfish clusters, blinding moth clouds, and stinging bee legions that knock back enemies failing a strength check by a significant 4.5 meters.
