In the latest installment of Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set to launch on the Switch 2. This version of the game, initially released for the PS5 as an enhanced iteration of the 2020 PS4 title Final Fantasy VII Remake, marks the first chapter in a trilogy that reimagines the iconic 1997 PS1 RPG, Final Fantasy VII. Intergrade not only enhances the graphics and lighting from the PS4 version but also includes the Intermission DLC, which focuses on the adventures of the spirited ninja Yuffie in Midgar.

Currently, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is available on PS5 and PC. However, Hamaguchi highlighted that the technological advancements of the Switch 2 will allow the game to be fully realized on Nintendo's new handheld platform. "With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs," he explained.

The portability of the Switch 2 adds another layer of appeal, as Hamaguchi noted, "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work." This feature not only makes the game more accessible but also facilitates direct discussions and sharing of gameplay experiences with others.

Furthermore, the Switch 2 version will integrate GameChat, allowing players to communicate with friends during gameplay and share their screens in real-time. Hamaguchi expressed his excitement about the game's portability, stating, "I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system," and expressed optimism about strengthening the partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand.

While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 so far, Hamaguchi hinted at future releases, saying, "I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2." This suggests that subsequent titles in the trilogy, including Rebirth and the final installment, might also make their way to the Switch 2.

The Final Fantasy series began on Nintendo consoles before transitioning to the PlayStation 1 with Final Fantasy VII, which introduced 3D graphics to the series in 1997. With this remake, fans will finally see Final Fantasy VII available on Nintendo hardware once again.
