Beginner’s Guide for Dead Sails

If you’re new to Dead Sails, don't worry. Similar to its predecessor Dead Rails, the game is straightforward—your mission is to captain a ship sailing in a straight line, covering 10 thousand meters between towns, with the ultimate goal of reaching 100k meters. It sounds simple, but keeping your ship fueled and yourself alive is the real challenge.

Before You Set Sail

Before embarking on your journey, the in-game lobby offers helpful resources, albeit at a cost. Starting with 15 Dabloons, the game's currency, you'll need to spend wisely. While boats are tempting, they're pricey and unnecessary for beginners. Instead, consider skipping immediate purchases of bandages and weapons, as you'll find plenty in-game.

How To Choose A Class

Invest your initial 15 Dabloons in a class. These perks are obtained through a loot box system, with each purchase costing 3 Dabloons. You might get lucky and snag a preferred class like Pirate or Gunslinger on your first try. Check out our Dead Sails Class Tierlist for a detailed breakdown of available classes.

What To Do In Towns

Upon starting a round, you'll spawn in a town where your ship is docked. These towns, appearing every 10 thousand meters, are your safe havens, offering various amenities:

  • Trading Hut: Sell collected items.
  • General Store: Buy necessary items for your journey.
  • Hospital: Heal yourself.
  • Gun Shop: Purchase guns and ammo.
  • Sheriff’s: Earn bounty money from pirate and creature corpses.

Starting with a blunt weapon, there's no immediate need for a firearm. Instead, prioritize buying coal—spend all your money on it. Fuel is crucial in Dead Sails; without it, your journey ends.

Dead Sails Tips & Tricks

The gameplay is simple, yet you'll encounter various buildings and structures, as well as undead creatures. Here's what you need to know to master Dead Sails.

Tips For Never Running Out Of Fuel

Your ship runs on coal, with each chunk adding 20% more fuel. You could theoretically complete the game by buying 5 coal pieces at every stop, but where's the adventure in that? Collectible items with a "fuel" marker offer a 5% increase, but the most efficient way to fuel up is by using undead corpses. Kill attackers, stash their bodies, and use them to keep your ship moving.

How To Survive The Night

Like Dead Rails, Dead Sails becomes much harder at night due to reduced visibility. If possible, spend the night in town for safety. Otherwise, buy Barbed Wire beforehand to mount on your ship, deterring mobs. Without it, pause your journey and attack any approaching creatures.

Which Weapon To Choose

Weapon choice is a matter of preference. If you favor melee, the starting hammer or pickaxe might suffice initially. As you encounter stronger enemies, you'll need more potent weapons. A shotgun is an excellent choice due to its high damage output, ideal for unexpected combat situations. The revolver is a good early-game option, often found in buildings, helping you get accustomed to firearms.

Best Items To Collect

Every item you collect can be sold, but with a limited inventory of 10 items, choose wisely. Focus on these valuable collectibles:

  • Moyai and Bars: Available in diamond, gold, and silver, these are lucrative.
  • Healing Packs: Keep these for emergencies rather than selling.
  • Crosses: Sell for 35 cash or use against undead.
  • Weapons: Use or sell based on need.
  • Robot Head: Found in houses and banks, sells for 45 cash.
  • Holy Water: Found in churches, sells for 25 cash.
  • Gold Llama: Rare and valuable, selling for 150 cash.

Remember, items on your boat will fall off if not welded down. Use the weld button (Z on the keyboard) to secure them.

And that’s the beginner's guide to Dead Sails! Follow these tips and you’ll become the best captain to ever sail the seas—or, in this case, the small, canal-like river. For an extra edge, check out our Dead Sails codes.
