Good News for Splinter Cell Fans: Ubisoft Updates Blacklist with Steam Achievements

Ubisoft has pleasantly surprised Splinter Cell fans by adding Steam Achievements to Splinter Cell: Blacklist, reminding players the stealth franchise hasn't been forgotten.

While the last major update on the Splinter Cell Remake came in 2022 during IGN's discussion with Ubisoft Toronto about its design approach, the developer quietly refreshed the achievement list for the 12-year-old Blacklist on Steam.

Ubisoft announced: "Agents, we're excited to confirm that Steam Achievements are now available for Splinter Cell: Blacklist!"

The achievements will unlock retroactively for accomplishments players have already completed—though they’ll need to launch the game at least once to sync. Ubisoft added, "Once synced, previously unlocked Ubisoft Connect achievements will automatically appear on Steam."

While implementing retrospective achievements, Ubisoft deliberately excluded the 19 online-only console achievements to preserve the ability to fully complete the game on Steam.

Splinter Cell Remake Still in the Works

The stealth-action series is set to return with a full remake of the original Splinter Cell, rebuilt from scratch using Ubisoft’s modern Snowdrop engine. Details remain scarce, but creative director Chris Auty previously explained:

"After 20 years, we’ll reassess the narrative, characters, and overall storyline to refine elements that haven’t aged well—while keeping the core experience faithful to the original vision."

Last month, Ubisoft restructured its operations by forming a subsidiary focused on flagship franchises like Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six, backed by a €1.16 billion investment from Tencent.

The update comes as Assassin’s Creed Shadows surpassed 3 million players. However, Ubisoft faces intense scrutiny after recent flops, layoffs, studio shutdowns, and canceled projects—compounded by its stock reaching an all-time low. The company is under pressure to ensure its upcoming titles succeed.
