The developers have openly acknowledged the influence of iconic titles like Final Fantasy and Persona.

The game's creative director, Guillaume Broche, recently discussed the game's inspirations with several gaming publications. He highlighted a desire to create a high-fidelity turn-based RPG, citing a lack of similar titles as the driving force. Persona and Octopath Traveler were specifically mentioned as stylish and nostalgic examples that informed the vision.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 features a compelling narrative centered around preventing a mysterious antagonist, the Paintress, from unleashing death. The game world boasts unique environments, such as the gravity-defying Flying Waters.

Combat blends turn-based strategy with real-time reactions. Players input commands in a turn-based system but must also react quickly to enemy attacks. This dynamic approach echoes the gameplay of Persona, Final Fantasy, and Sea of Stars.
