"How to Catch and Evolve Deino in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet"

Author : Violet Apr 25,2025

Dark/Dragon-type Hydreigon is one of the most formidable Pokémon you can encounter in *Pokémon Scarlet & Violet*, and every trainer should consider adding it to their Pokédex. To harness the power of Hydreigon, you'll first need to catch its pre-evolved forms, Deino and Zweilous. Once you have these, you can evolve them into the fierce Hydreigon. However, be aware that Deino and its evolutions are exclusive to *Pokémon Scarlet*. If you're playing *Pokémon Violet*, you'll need to use alternative methods to acquire them.

Updated on January 13, 2025 by Renri Seong: The Dark/Dragon-type Deino evolves into the powerful pseudo-legendary Hydreigon. Introduced in Gen 5 with *Pokémon Black/White*, the Deino line has been a staple in mainline games, including *Pokémon Scarlet/Violet*. As with many new generations, Deino and its evolutions are version-exclusives. While you can catch them in the wild in *Pokémon Scarlet*, you'll need to trade to obtain one in *Pokémon Violet*. With numerous pseudo-legendary Pokémon available in *Scarlet/Violet*, you might wonder if Hydreigon is still worth using. This guide has been updated to include the latest information on Hydreigon, including its stats and type effectiveness.

Where to Catch Deino in Pokémon Scarlet

Deino and Zweilous Locations

In *Pokémon Scarlet*, you can catch Deino in several locations: Alfornada Cavern, Dalizapa Passage, Glaseado Mountain, Area Zero, and North Province (Area Two). Glaseado Mountain, Area Zero, and North Province (Area Two) are more straightforward to locate and access. However, Alfornada Cavern and Dalizapa Passage might be trickier to find. Deinos in Dalizapa Passage and Alfornada Cavern range from levels 35 to 40.

  • Alfornada Cavern: Located in the southwest corner of the Paldea map, you'll need Koraidon's high jump ability to navigate this cave.
  • Dalizapa Passage: Accessible by traveling east from Medali or west from Zapapico. It's the area between these two locations on the map.

You can also encounter Deino in 3-star Tera Raids, which become available after earning three gym badges. These Deinos might have a different Tera Type than those found in the wild and could possess their Hidden Ability.

Zweilous, Deino's evolved form, can be found in the wild at Dalizapa Passage, Area Zero, and Alfornada Cavern. Additionally, Zweilous appears in 4-star Tera Raids. Hydreigon can be encountered in 5/6-star Tera Raids.

How to Get Deino in Pokémon Violet

How to Trade and Transfer

How to Get Deino in Pokémon Violet Since Deino and its evolutions are exclusive to *Pokémon Scarlet*, players of *Pokémon Violet* must trade or transfer to obtain them. Trading requires a Nintendo Switch Online Membership to use the Union Circle. If you prefer not to subscribe, consider using *Pokémon HOME* to transfer Deino from another game to *Pokémon Violet*.

To transfer using *Pokémon HOME*, you'll need the app on your Switch. Deino and its evolutions can be transferred from *Pokémon Sword/Shield*, *Pokémon GO*, and *Pokémon Scarlet*:

  1. Open *Pokémon HOME*, select the game where you have Deino, and move it to your Basic Box. Save and exit.
  2. Re-enter *Pokémon HOME*, open *Pokémon Violet*, and transfer Deino from the Basic Box to a PC Box. Save and exit.

How to Evolve Deino into Zweilous and Hydreigon

What Level Does Deino Evolve?

Deino Evolution Deino evolves into Zweilous at level 50, and Zweilous evolves into Hydreigon at level 64. To level up Deino and Zweilous quickly, consider using auto-battle against large groups of Pokémon. Alternatively, you can feed them Exp. Candies or Rare Candies. For faster leveling, Exp. Candy L and Exp. Candy XL are recommended due to Deino's high evolution thresholds.

Hydreigon Stats & Weaknesses

Hydreigon Stats As a pseudo-legendary, Hydreigon ranks among the most powerful Pokémon in *Pokémon Scarlet & Violet*. With a base stat total of 600, it boasts high Special Attack and Attack with solid Speed. This makes it an excellent choice for either a Timid (+Spd, -Attk) or Jolly (+Spd, -Sp.Attk) Nature.

HP:92
Attack:105
Special Attack:125
Defense:90
Special Defense:90
Speed:98
Total:600

As a Dark/Dragon-type, Hydreigon has the following type effectiveness:

Super-effective against:Dragon, Ghost, Psychic
Weaknesses:Fairy (4x), Fighting, Bug, Dragon, Ice
Resistances:Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Ghost, Dark
Immunities:Ground, Psychic

Thanks to Terastallizing, Hydreigon can overcome its double weakness to Fairy-type moves. Offensively, changing its Tera Type can provide STAB on potent moves like Flash Cannon. Hydreigon can function as either a physical or special attacker, given its versatile learnset. However, its vulnerability to Fairy-type moves means it's wise to equip it with a Steel-type move like Flash Cannon, the only Steel-type move it can learn via TM. Other recommended moves include Nasty Plot to boost Special Attack, Dragon Pulse (or Draco Meteor), and Dark Pulse.
