Ed Boon, the development chief behind Mortal Kombat 1, has stirred excitement within the gaming community by sharing a sneak peek of the T-1000 Terminator's Fatality on social media. This reveal coincides with the release of another guest character, Conan the Barbarian, and Boon announced that Mortal Kombat 1 has surpassed five million copies sold, an increase from the previously reported four million.

The showcased Fatality features the T-1000 driving a smashed truck into his opponent, a nod to the iconic chase scene from Terminator 2. This thrilling glimpse into the T-1000's abilities has fans eagerly anticipating his addition to the game.

Boon's tweet also hinted at more content to come, stating, "With Conan getting into player’s hands, we are excited to keep trucking forward with future DLC!" This comment has sparked speculation about the possibility of additional DLC characters beyond the current Khaos Reigns expansion, which includes T-1000 as its final character alongside Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian.

The future of Mortal Kombat 1 and potential new content remains a hot topic, especially given Warner Bros. Discovery's commitment to the franchise. In November, CEO David Zaslav emphasized the company's focus on four key titles, including Mortal Kombat. Additionally, Boon has assured fans that NetherRealm plans to support Mortal Kombat 1 for the long haul, despite having decided on their next project three years ago.

While many speculate that NetherRealm's next game could be a third installment in the Injustice series, neither the studio nor Warner Bros. has confirmed this. The Injustice series, which began with Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2013 and continued with Injustice 2 in 2017, has been on hold since the release of Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019 and the subsequent soft reboot, Mortal Kombat 1, in 2023.

In an interview with IGN in June 2023, Boon discussed the decision to focus on another Mortal Kombat game instead of returning to Injustice. He cited the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to a newer version of the Unreal game engine as key factors. Despite these challenges, Boon remains optimistic about the future of the Injustice franchise, stating, "Not at all," when asked if the door was closed on it.

As fans eagerly await more details on future DLC and the next steps for NetherRealm, the excitement around Mortal Kombat 1 continues to grow, fueled by the promise of new content and the enduring popularity of the franchise.
