The Battle Cats Return to Sengoku, Celebrate 12th Anniversary
Ponos's Battle Cats Celebrates 12 Years with a Sengoku-Era Ad Campaign
Twelve years of quirky ninja cats, fish cats, and even a "Gross Cat"—The Battle Cats continues its reign in the mobile gaming world. This enduring tower defense game, known for its odd charm, is celebrating its anniversary with a new ad campaign set in Japan's Sengoku period.
The new commercials, a collaboration between Ponos and R/GA, blend the strategic depth of the Sengoku era with the game's signature humor and iconic cat food cans. The result is a series of cinematic ads that cleverly intertwine historical elements with the game's unique aesthetic. The campaign, titled "The Way of the Cat," even inspired me to want to "be the cat, become the cat."
“Celebrating 12 years of The Battle Cats, we aimed to highlight the game's strategic gameplay in a new and engaging way," explains Ponos' COO and Managing Director Seiichiro Sano. "Our partnership with R/GA honors our history while attracting new players.”
