"11 Bit Studios Compares This War of Mine to The Alters"
Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their highly anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its release date. Amidst the excitement, the studio paused to reminisce about their groundbreaking wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which catapulted them to global fame over a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing ambiance, The Alters embraces a more spirited and occasionally humorous storyline, focusing on the trials faced by different versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite these stark tonal contrasts, the developers highlight a deep thematic link between the two games.
Although set in different worlds and atmospheres, both titles explore the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the brutal realities of war within a besieged city, meticulously managing resources and facing daily struggles to ensure the survival of their group. Conversely, The Alters frames survival as a relentless race against time, where players must continuously relocate their mobile base to escape a merciless sun that turns everything to dust.
Both games challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones and venture into perilous territories in pursuit of scarce resources. The primary distinction is in the protagonists: This War of Mine involves guiding a group of ordinary civilians, whereas The Alters features a unique ensemble of alternate versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, it will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from launch day, ensuring a wide audience can experience this innovative survival narrative.
