"Wind Waker HD Switch 2 Port Remains a Possibility"
The excitement surrounding the announcement of the Wind Waker's GameCube version coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 has sparked curiosity about the potential porting of Wind Waker HD to this next-gen console. Dive deeper into Nintendo's stance on this issue and discover the enhancements Wind Waker HD brought to the original game.
Wind Waker GameCube Version Coming To Switch 2
During the Nintendo Direct for Switch 2 on April 2, it was revealed that the beloved GameCube version of Wind Waker would make its way to the Switch 2. This news led fans to ponder the fate of Wind Waker HD on this new platform.
In a reassuring statement, Nate Bihldorff, Senior Vice President of Product Development at Nintendo of America, addressed these concerns. As reported by Tim Gettys on Kinda Funny Games Daily on April 9, Bihldorff stated during a Switch 2 press event in New York that the possibility of porting Wind Waker HD to the Switch 2 remains open. Gettys shared, "I did ask if having The Wind Waker on NSO precludes it from the Switch 2 getting the actual Wii U port at some point, and he was very quick to say 'no, all options are on the table'. Obviously, nothing is confirmed one way or another."
First Released in 2002
Originally launched in 2002 in Japan and 2003 in the West, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker graced the GameCube with its unique art style and engaging gameplay. Fast forward to 2013, and fans were treated to Wind Waker HD on the Wii U, boasting significant upgrades such as a jump from 480p to HD visuals, enhanced lighting, the introduction of gyro controls for weapons, accelerated sailing, and various gameplay enhancements. Given that the GameCube library is exclusive to the Switch 2, porting Wind Waker HD might be the only avenue for original Switch owners to experience this beloved title.
In related news, the Nintendo Switch Online classics game libraries have been rebranded as Nintendo Classics. According to Nintendo, "Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members will soon be able to play The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-ZERO GX, and SOULCALIBUR II on Nintendo Switch 2, with more games slated for the future." Additionally, some titles will feature options like a retro screen filter and widescreen gameplay, enhancing the nostalgic experience for players.
