Since Fields of Mistria entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been a point of intrigue on the town map. Initially inaccessible, players gained entry with the game's March 2025 update. Here’s a detailed guide on how to access the Deep Woods and locate Caldarus in Fields of Mistria.

Unlocking the Deep Woods involves breaking the Fire Seal and utilizing the new Dragon’s Breath spell to clear the obstructing vines. To achieve this, you must first place four specific items on the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar located on Floor 60 of the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. While the first three items are obtainable between floors 50 and 59, securing the Sealing Scroll requires teamwork with Juniper and Balor.

To help Balor procure the Sealing Scroll, deposit the following items in the bin by his wagon:

  • x10 Silver Ingots
  • x10 Rubies
  • x10 Sapphires
  • x10 Emeralds

After fulfilling these requirements, a conversation with Balor will inform you that the item will be available the next day, allowing you to complete the offering.

The act of breaking magic seals usually concludes with guidance from the mysterious mines Priestess, unlocking a new biome. However, this time, the outcome deviates as the Priestess urges you to leave before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. As your health diminishes, Caldarus appears in his human form to aid you, subsequently retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength.

Caldarus then requests you to find him at his temple, gifting you the Dragon’s Breath spell. This powerful offensive spell can burn away the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance in Fields of Mistria, and it can also reveal other previously inaccessible map areas. To use it, equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu and activate it in front of the area's entrance, permanently unlocking the Deep Woods and other regions.

After breaking the Fire Seal, you can locate Caldarus within his temple in the Deep Woods, situated north of the Eastern Road on your map. Access to this area requires the Dragon’s Breath spell. Caldarus' exact location is marked on the map like other NPCs, and you'll find him in the northeast corner of the area.

To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to clear a blocking stump. Proceed north until you reach the temple where Caldarus awaits inside.

Once the Deep Woods is unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to this area and visit Caldarus at any time. Teleportation costs just 10 Essence, making it a convenient alternative to traveling on foot or horseback.

You can also interact with Caldarus through his statue, maintaining a connection with him in spirit.
