It seems we may have caught an early glimpse of the title for the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel—perhaps unintentionally. An NBCUniversal press release, recently published ahead of its official reveal, briefly listed Super Mario World as one of the upcoming films from Universal Pictures and Illumination set to arrive on Peacock.

The mention was quickly noticed by fans across social media and gaming communities, sparking immediate excitement. However, it didn’t take long for Universal to quietly edit the release, removing all references to Mario-related content.

Interestingly, the original text grouped Super Mario World alongside Shrek and Minions, both of which are known to be sequels: Shrek 5 and Minions 3. This raises the possibility that the title mentioned was not final, or perhaps used as a working title or umbrella term rather than the official name. After all, neither Shrek 5 nor Minions 3 is simply titled Shrek or Minions, suggesting similar logic might apply here.

PlayStill, *Super Mario World* is a more specific title than just *Super Mario* or *Super Mario Bros.*, making it tempting to consider it accurate. If intentional, the choice would make perfect thematic sense, drawing direct inspiration from the iconic SNES classic.
