Skull and Bones to Add Land Combat This Fall as Ubisoft Outlines Year 2 Content Plans
Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most thrilling chapter yet for this pirate multiplayer game, with a treasure trove of new content including new game modes, ships, a fearsome Kraken, and a long-awaited feature: land combat.
During a special Year 2 showcase that aired yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its plans for the upcoming updates. The spotlight was on Season 3: Guts and Glory, scheduled for this fall, which will introduce the much-anticipated land combat. Players will be able to step away from the sea to engage in swordfights and use firearms on land, as part of the Rogue Warlord additions. This feature will allow players to explore sandy beaches and damp caves in search of skilled crewmembers known as Officers. A teaser video offered a glimpse into this new experience, but full details will be revealed later this year.
While land combat is the headline feature of Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase revealed a wealth of additional content to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which launches today, April 15, introduces a loot-enhancing item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Following that, Season 2: Oaths of War, set for summer 2025, will feature Megaforts and the imposing Frigate large ships. Season 4: Eye of the Beast, slated for this winter, promises the introduction of the Kraken, Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.
If you're intrigued by these updates, you'll be pleased to know that Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 – 21. This is your chance to experience the pirate PvP action firsthand, and there will also be an opportunity to purchase the game at a discounted price, though the exact amount has not yet been revealed.
Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. In our review, we awarded it a 7/10. Although Ubisoft has not disclosed specific sales figures, they reported "record player engagement" shortly after the game's release. Notably, the launch of Skull and Bones coincided with a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
