The first season of The Last of Us was a massive success for HBO, created by Craig Mazin of Chernobyl fame and Neil Druckmann, head of Naughty Dog. The series garnered numerous Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and received five Primetime Emmy nominations, including nods for Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Outstanding Director, and Outstanding Writing.

Given the success of the first season, HBO is eager for more, with Francesca Orsi hinting that the show is planned to run for a total of four seasons. This means that The Last of Us Season 2 will not cover the entire game's story, leaving room for further exploration in future seasons.
