Rune Slayer Fishing: Beginner's Guide
If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* is an MMORPG, let the presence of fishing in the game be your proof. While we're joking about the fishing trope in MMORPGs, understanding how to fish in *Rune Slayer* can be a bit tricky. We've navigated these waters and are here to guide you through the process. Spoiler alert: it's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*.
Before You Start Fishing in Rune Slayer
Before you cast your line, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**, the white-haired NPC you'll find at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon tasks you with catching 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box. The quotation marks around "fish" hint at a twist, which we'll get to shortly.
To catch these "fish," you'll need a **fishing rod and some bait/tackle**. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman sells these essentials.
**Purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. While most players suggest having at least 5 worms, we recommend buying 10 to be on the safe side. Note that you **cannot equip the bait**; the Worms simply need to be in your inventory. Each time you catch something, one Worm is automatically used up.
Here's a crucial detail: **you won't be able to catch anything unless you have at least 5 bait items in your inventory**. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. Once we had 5 Worms, the catches started coming in. It's a good idea to keep the Worms in your hotbar to monitor your supply easily.
How to Catch Fish in Rune Slayer
To begin fishing, **select your Wood Fishing Rod** and move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory. Your character will then hold it with both hands.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water**—the pier near Simon the Fisherman is a good spot. Keep an eye on the bobber, and when you see it **ripple once or twice**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**.
Be aware that **this method isn't foolproof**. Often, you won't catch anything, and sometimes you'll pull up junk. The good news is, **Simon counts junk as a catch**, which explains the earlier quotation marks around "fish."
Your goal is to **catch 5 "fish" or items**. We managed to catch only two actual fish, with the rest being Old Cups.
Once you've caught 5 "fish," **return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll reward you with a Tackle Box. Open it and store your remaining Worms inside to save inventory space.
That's the rundown on fishing in *Rune Slayer*. Enjoy your time on the water, and if you need more guidance, don't forget to check out our **The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to *Rune Slayer***.
