Fans were given an exclusive preview into the world of Ratatan with the release of a new gameplay trailer during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 in 2025. The video showcases dynamic rhythm-based combat, including an intense boss battle against a massive crab, giving players a glimpse of what to expect from this highly anticipated title.

Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani and featuring music by original Patapon composer Kemmei Adachi, Ratatan blends rhythm elements with fast-paced side-scrolling action. The game supports up to four-player online co-op, allowing teams to command squads and unleash chaos in large-scale battles involving up to 100 on-screen characters.

Originally launched as a Kickstarter campaign in 2023, Ratatan successfully reached its console stretch goal, confirming releases on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

Closed Beta Test Launches February 27, 2025

According to an update shared on the game’s Kickstarter page, the Ratatan closed beta is scheduled to begin on February 27, 2025. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared insights into recent milestones achieved by the development team.

The game has surpassed 100,000 Steam wishlist additions and received positive feedback for its original soundtrack demo. However, it will not be featured during the upcoming Steam Next Fest, as the team focuses on refining the experience ahead of the beta launch.

During the closed beta period—which will last approximately one month—players will initially have access to Stage 1, with additional stages (Stage 2 and 3) introduced as the test progresses.
