PSN Accounts for Playstation's PC Ports No Longer Required (For Some Games)
Sony's recent announcement simplifies access to select PlayStation 5 PC ports. Effective after the January 30, 2025 release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PC, a PSN account will no longer be mandatory for several titles.
PSN Accounts Now Optional for Select PC Ports
This change impacts Marvel's Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and the upcoming PC release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered (April 2025). However, titles like Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and Until Dawn will retain the PSN requirement.
Incentives for PSN Account Holders
While PSN is no longer compulsory, logging in offers advantages: trophy support, friend management, and exclusive in-game bonuses. These include:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Early unlock of the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
- God of War Ragnarök: Access to Kratos' Armor of the Black Bear set (previously New Game+ only) and a resource bundle.
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered: 50 bonus points and Ellie's Jordan’s Jacket skin.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: The Nora Valiant outfit.
Sony plans to expand these incentives, promising further benefits for PSN users in the future.
Addressing Past Backlash
This policy shift follows criticism regarding PSN account mandates for PC ports. The requirement for Helldivers 2 led to its delisting in numerous countries lacking PSN support, resulting in negative player feedback. Similar issues arose with God of War Ragnarök's PC release. Sony's decision reflects a commitment to improving the PC gaming experience and acknowledging player concerns about accessibility and data privacy. The limited geographical availability of PSN remains a point of contention.
