Exciting news for fans of the iconic franchise: Power Rangers is gearing up for a thrilling live-action series on Disney+. According to The Wrap, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the masterminds behind the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, are in discussions to take on the roles of writers, showrunners, and producers for this new Power Rangers venture, brought to you by Disney+ and 20th Century TV.

Hasbro, the current owner of the Power Rangers brand, is set on revamping the series to captivate a new generation of viewers while keeping the legacy fans engaged. The goal is to breathe fresh life into the franchise, ensuring its continued relevance and appeal.

The original '90s TV show, The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, captured the hearts of countless children with its tales of teenage superheroes and their impressive mechs, which could combine to form an even larger, more powerful mech.

In 2018, Hasbro acquired the Power Rangers franchise from Saban Properties in a deal valued at $522 million. At the time of the acquisition, Hasbro's chairman and CEO, Brian Goldner, expressed enthusiasm about the "tremendous upside potential" of the Power Rangers brand. He highlighted the significant opportunities across various sectors, including toys and games, consumer products, digital gaming, entertainment, and global retail expansion.

This acquisition followed the 2017 movie reboot of Power Rangers, which aimed for a darker, grittier tone but failed to resonate at the box office. The disappointing performance led to the cancellation of plans for sequels, prompting Saban to sell the rights to Hasbro shortly thereafter.

Hasbro's ambitions extend beyond Power Rangers, with other notable projects in development, such as a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms at Netflix, an animated Magic: The Gathering series also at Netflix, and plans for a Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe.
