DC Studios boss James Gunn has officially announced that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21, accompanied by a tantalizing snippet of new footage. In a recent tweet, Gunn expressed his excitement, labeling the Season 2 premiere as “one of my favorite things ever.” The brief footage features John Cena in action, complete with a characteristic smirk directed at the camera amidst a backdrop of raging fire. A voice in the clip declares Peacemaker as “a superhero now.”

Following the release of Superman on July 11, which marks the grand launch of Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe (DCU), Peacemaker Season 2 will be the third installment in this new cinematic universe. It comes after last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film this summer.

The new DCU, spearheaded by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, seeks to distance itself from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, some elements from the DCEU will carry over into the DCU. Peacemaker is a prime example of this continuity, having debuted in the now-defunct DCEU with its first season, while its second season will be part of the new DCU.

Moreover, Gunn has clarified that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
