Overwatch 2 Unveils Exclusive Events in China
Overwatch 2 is set to make a triumphant return to China on February 19, coinciding with the start of Season 15. This relaunch comes with a plethora of exciting features and rewards, including the ability for Chinese players to earn Battle Pass rewards from Seasons 1 through 9 and participate in thrilling in-game events. Additionally, Season 15 will introduce skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology, though details about these skins remain scarce.
The announcement of Overwatch 2's return to China has been eagerly anticipated. A technical test from January 8 to 15 allowed fans to preview the content they missed, including Overwatch: Classic and the six new heroes added since the servers were shut down in China during Season 2. This test provided a sneak peek at what players can expect upon the game's full relaunch.
Following the conclusion of the technical test, Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller shared more details on Xiaohongshu, also known as RedNote. He revealed that a multi-week "Return to China" celebration will feature many of the popular in-game events and rewards that Chinese players have missed over the past two years. Chinese players will have the opportunity to earn Battle Pass rewards from Seasons 1 and 2 before the relaunch, and those from Seasons 3 to 9 through in-game events post-relaunch.
Chinese Mythology – Theme for Overwatch 2 Season 15?
Aaron Keller also hinted that Season 15 of Overwatch 2 will feature skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology. It's currently unclear whether these skins will be new or existing ones, if they will be exclusive to China, or if they might be part of a broader Chinese mythology theme for Season 15, similar to how Season 14 was themed around Norse mythology.
With Overwatch 2 Season 15 set to begin on February 18, just before the game's official relaunch in China, players won't have to wait long to learn more. A full reveal is expected in early February, just over a month before the season starts.
In the meantime, global fans can participate in various events leading up to Season 15. From January 21 through February 4, players can enjoy the second 6v6 test in Overwatch 2, known as Min 1, Max 3, with the classic 2-2-2 team composition available until then. The Lunar New Year and the Moth Meta Overwatch: Classic events are also scheduled before Season 15, offering plenty of excitement for players worldwide. While Chinese players may miss out on these events, they have their own special celebrations to look forward to upon the game's return.
