Nintendo Warns U.S. Customers: Switch 2 Release Date Delivery Not Guaranteed Due to High Demand
The much-anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2 is on the horizon, and Nintendo has issued a crucial update for U.S. fans eagerly awaiting their console. The company has announced that it may struggle to meet the demand, especially following their earlier warning in Japan about pre-order shortages. This news comes after Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2 will hit the shelves on June 5, 2025, with a starting price of $449.99.
Nintendo's recent statement on their website addressed those who have registered their interest in purchasing the Switch 2 through the My Nintendo Store. They cautioned that delivery by the release date cannot be guaranteed due to high demand. "Thank you to those of you who have already registered your interest in purchasing from My Nintendo Store," the statement read. "We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase."
To increase the chances of securing a Switch 2 on launch day, Nintendo suggested pre-ordering through third-party retailers, although the console has already sold out at places like GameStop following the pre-order launch on April 24, 2025. "If you wish to increase your opportunity of obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2 system at launch, please visit our participating retail partners above," the statement advised, directing fans to alternative options.
For those still hoping to purchase directly from the My Nintendo Store, the process involves waiting for an invitation email. The first batch of these invitations will begin to be sent out on May 8, 2025, with subsequent batches to follow periodically until the store opens to everyone. Priority for these invitations is given to those who meet specific criteria: having purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership, maintaining that membership for at least 12 months, and having opted in to share gameplay data with at least 50 hours of total gameplay.
The initial pre-order date for the Switch 2 was set for April 9 but was delayed to April 24, as Nintendo needed more time to assess the impact of tariffs and market conditions. Alongside the base console, Nintendo confirmed the pricing for the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle at $499.99, and the prices for both physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza will remain unchanged at launch. However, due to ongoing tariff issues, the prices for Switch 2 accessories have been raised.
For fans looking to stay updated on pre-order opportunities, Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, and games, the company encourages checking their dedicated pre-order guide regularly. This guide will provide the latest news and information to help fans secure their new console on day one.
