Nintendo Switch Online App Adds New Features

Author : Hannah Sep 28,2025

Just days before the Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5, Nintendo has given its Nintendo Switch Online app a major overhaul, starting with a new name: Nintendo Switch App.

This rebrand marks a notable shift, especially since "Nintendo Switch Online" has long been tied to Nintendo's subscription gaming service. Subscribers enjoy online multiplayer, access to classic Nintendo titles across multiple eras—including NES, SNES, Game Boy, and Nintendo 64 games—and soon, with the Switch 2's arrival, expanded GameCube catalog.

The app's 3.0.1 update not only removes "Online" from its title but also features a cleaner design for improved usability. It now supports Nintendo Switch 2 consoles and GameChat invites, lets users manage friends lists, and sends notifications when friends come online.

One standout feature—at least for me—is streamlined screenshot and video management, with direct uploads now possible.

Below are the complete patch notes, as listed on the App Store.
