Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay Affects Canada

Author : Simon May 05,2025

Gamers around the world let out a collective groan last week when the eagerly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows when?" This change came in the wake of import tariffs introduced by President Trump, which caused financial markets to spiral. The ripple effect has crossed borders, with Nintendo Canada confirming that pre-orders in their region are also delayed, dashing hopes of securing a console through a Canadian connection.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not commence on April 9, 2025, to synchronize with the yet-to-be-determined pre-order schedule in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada in a release to the Canadian tech outlet MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will share updated information in due time. The launch date remains set for June 5, 2025."

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not begin on April 9, 2025, as Nintendo assesses the potential impact of tariffs and the shifting market landscape. An update on timing will be provided later. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains firm.

With the original pre-order date looming tomorrow, there's still no clarity on when fans can start frantically refreshing their browsers and verifying their credit card details, leaving gamers in a state of uncertainty and worried about potential price hikes from the initially announced price of $449.99.

In other regions, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already started in the UK, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths quickly selling out. Scalpers have jumped on the opportunity, listing pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, significantly above the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
