"Nintendo Switch 2 Image Confirms C Button on Joy-Con"

Author : Charlotte May 05,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, as had been widely rumored. This confirmation was subtly revealed through an image featured in the listings of the newly launched Nintendo Today! app on both the App Store and Google Play. A closer look at the image clearly shows the letter 'C' on the button, solidifying earlier speculations.

The C button was first showcased alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, but initial images did not feature any lettering on the button. Subsequent reports suggested it was the "C" button, a theory now validated by Nintendo.

Speculation about the function of the C button abounds. Some enthusiasts believe it might be used for wirelessly casting the Switch 2 to a TV or for screen sharing capabilities. Others theorize it could switch the Joy-Con's functionality, such as into a mouse mode. There are also ideas floating around that it might relate to new group or voice chat features.

PlayNintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where we hope to gain more insights into the new console's features, including the mysterious C button. Until then, here's a summary of what we know so far about the Nintendo Switch 2:
  • Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • The console is larger than the original Switch, featuring bigger Joy-Con that appear capable of functioning as a mouse.
  • It includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Switch 2 is backward compatible, confirmed to play both physical and digital games from the original Switch as well as new Switch 2 exclusive titles. However, some games from the original Switch may not be fully supported.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.
