Nintendo Switch 2 Accessory Prices Rise, Fans React to Increased Costs

Nintendo has officially revealed the pre-order date and pricing details for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console and its accompanying accessories. While the console’s price remains unchanged, adjustments to accessory pricing have sparked discussion among fans, potentially influencing early purchasing decisions.

The base model of the Nintendo Switch 2 will be available for $449.99, with a bundled version including Mario Kart World priced at $499.99. The standalone release of Mario Kart World will cost $79.99, while Donkey Kong Bananza is set at $69.99.

However, accessory prices have seen a noticeable increase across the lineup. Here’s the updated pricing:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller – $84.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Pair – $94.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip – $39.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Strap – $13.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set – $24.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Camera – $54.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set – $119.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector – $39.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case – $84.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter – $34.99

In an official statement, Nintendo cited “changes in market conditions” as the reason for the revised accessory pricing, noting that these adjustments reflect updates from the initial figures announced on April 2, 2025. Most high-end accessories now carry a $5 increase, while the Dock Set has risen by $10 from its previous $109.99 price point.

The new pricing has drawn attention, particularly around the Joy-Con 2 Pair, which now sits just $5.01 below the $100 mark. This has left some prospective buyers surprised by the cost, especially for additional controller sets.

Despite the higher accessory prices, Nintendo has emphasized backward compatibility with many Nintendo Switch 1 accessories. As confirmed on its support site, several original peripherals remain functional with the Switch 2. This includes the original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro Controller. While the original Joy-Cons cannot attach directly to the Switch 2 console, they can be paired wirelessly. Additionally, legacy accessories like the Super Nintendo and N64 themed controllers will continue to work with compatible games.

This compatibility news has been widely shared across social platforms, with many users highlighting the ability to reuse existing gear or explore third-party controller options. While third-party controllers may lack certain features—such as the C-button or console wake functionality—many players view them as a cost-effective alternative.

Nintendo also noted that further price adjustments may occur in the future, stating, “Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible depending on market conditions.” However, for current owners of Switch 1 accessories, the ability to transition existing gear to the new system offers a welcome cost-saving advantage.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will begin on April 24, 2025.
