Nintendo Reveals Expensive Switch 2 Upgrades for Kirby and Mario Games

Nintendo has announced the pricing for upgrading two more Switch games from their original versions to the enhanced Switch 2 Editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. However, the cost of these upgrades is significantly higher than expected.

While The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom each require a $9.99 upgrade fee to move from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at more than double that amount each.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integrates with the new "Zelda Notes" service in the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original game need to purchase a $10 upgrade pack to access these enhancements.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land includes new story content in the "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition introduces "Jamboree TV," a new content suite that leverages the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the Switch 2 USB-C camera (sold separately). It also features upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, an improved frame rate, new minigames, and enhanced online functions.

Although U.S. prices have not yet been confirmed on the American Nintendo eShop—possibly due to uncertainties related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, more than double the £7.99 / €9.99 fee for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.

The upgrade for Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV is similarly priced at £16.99 / €19.99, suggesting a likely U.S. price of $19.99. This higher upgrade cost may be linked to the substantial $80 price tags on the full versions of Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. Both of these games' original Switch versions are priced at $59.99.

For those not upgrading, here are the prices for the Switch 2 Edition games in the U.S.:

It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no additional cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. However, no such offer exists for Kirby or Party Jamboree upgrades at this time.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, launched on April 24, are priced at $449.99 and have been met with high demand. Nintendo has issued a warning to U.S. customers who pre-ordered from the My Nintendo Store, indicating that release date delivery is not guaranteed due to the overwhelming interest.
