"Nintendo Fuels Zelda: Wind Waker HD Hopes Amid Switch 2 GameCube Rumors"

The arrival of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker on the Nintendo Switch 2 through the GameCube library does not rule out the possibility of a full port. Nate Bihldorff, senior vice president of product development at Nintendo of America, shared with Kinda Funny's Tim Gettys that the availability of a game on Nintendo Switch Online does not prevent the developer from considering a remaster or remake.

Despite their popularity, both 2003's The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess have yet to be ported to the Nintendo Switch, including the upcoming Switch 2. Some fans have expressed concern that with The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker—previously ported to the Wii U in 2013—soon to be accessible via Nintendo's premium subscription service upon the Nintendo Switch 2 release on June 5, a full remaster might never materialize.

However, Bihldorff was quick to clarify that the inclusion of The Wind Waker in the Nintendo Switch Online library does not preclude a future port to the Nintendo Switch 2. He emphasized that "all options are on the table," leaving room for various possibilities, including remakes or different port versions. While no confirmations were given, the message was clear: "never say never."

During last week's Nintendo Direct presentation, it was revealed that GameCube titles would be integrated into the Nintendo Switch Online service as part of its premium offerings. This update will bring a host of classic 2000s-era games to subscribers, including F-Zero GX and Soulcalibur 2, available at launch this summer, alongside The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The library is expected to grow over time, with titles such as Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Strikers, and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness on the horizon.

Recent developments have also impacted the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date, which was delayed in the United States due to import tariffs implemented by President Trump, causing financial market fluctuations. This delay has also affected Nintendo Canada, which confirmed that pre-orders would be postponed there as well.
