Netflix Plans 'D&D Universe' with Live-Action Series
A live-action Dungeons & Dragons series is reportedly in development at Netflix, according to a recent report by Deadline. The project, set in the iconic Forgotten Realms universe—the same world used for both the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves film and Larian Studios’ critically acclaimed Baldur’s Gate 3—is being spearheaded by Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy and writer-showrunner Drew Crevello (WeCrashed), in collaboration with Hasbro.
Described as “one of Netflix’s biggest TV bets in the fantasy space to date,” the series aims to bring the rich lore and epic storytelling of Dungeons & Dragons to life on screen. Drew Crevello has reportedly already penned the pilot episode and will serve as showrunner, though neither Netflix nor Hasbro have officially commented on the production.
Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva noted that after extensive negotiations typical for high-profile intellectual properties, the series is now “set at the streamer for further development.” She added that if successful, the show could potentially launch an expanded D& Dungeons universe across multiple series and spin-offs.
While fans eagerly await official confirmation and updates, this new development marks a significant step forward for one of the most beloved fantasy franchises in gaming and pop culture history.

Although this upcoming live-action Dungeons & Dragons series appears to be moving ahead with strong backing, news on a potential sequel to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves remains quiet. Despite the film's critical acclaim and fan adoration, it underperformed at the box office for Paramount Pictures.
In November 2023, lead actor Chris Pine expressed his eagerness to return for a follow-up, stating he was “pretty confident” a sequel would happen—yet no official announcements have surfaced since then.
Paramount CEO Brian Robbins has hinted at openness to producing another Dungeons & Dragons movie, but only if it can be made with a reduced budget: “We've got to figure out a way to make it for less.”
In the meantime, Amazon Prime Video’s Secret Level anthology series has offered fans a brief animated taste of the Dungeons & Dragons universe.
