"Netflix Launches

As a Netflix subscriber, you might have already dived into the latest season of Black Mirror, with Season 7 released just yesterday. Featuring all six episodes, the series has garnered positive reviews. While the series itself is captivating, my spotlight today is on Netflix's newest game inspired by it: Black Mirror: Thronglets.

Black Mirror: Thronglets Is Based on Season 7’s Episode 4

If you've watched Episode 4, you're familiar with the eerie atmosphere it sets. For those who haven't, here's a brief overview: Set in 2034, the episode takes us back to 1994, focusing on Cameron Walker, portrayed by Peter Capaldi. Starting from a shoplifting arrest, the narrative delves into themes of childhood trauma, obsession, admiration, and the quintessential Black Mirror experience of being trapped in a simulation.

Black Mirror: Thronglets mirrors the retro pixelated virtual pet simulation game from the episode, Plaything, developed in the 90s by Colin Ritman of Tuckersoft, known from other Black Mirror episodes like Bandersnatch and Nosedive. Brought to mobile platforms by Netflix's game studio, Night School, the game begins similarly to a glitchy Tamagotchi, but evolves into a deeper, existential experience.

In Thronglets, players nurture digital life forms known as Thronglets, which evolve and learn from your interactions. Starting with a single pixelated blob, you'll soon manage a full-blown Throng, each with its own developing personality.

The Game Is Watching You Too

As you engage more with the game, it subtly monitors your choices and behavior. Over time, it presents a personality assessment based on your interactions with the Throng. You can even compare your results with friends for added enjoyment.

Both Black Mirror: Thronglets and the corresponding episode explore themes of memory, digital legacy, and isolation, offering an emotional and dark narrative. Whether you're a fan of the series or seeking a fresh gaming experience, consider giving Thronglets a try, available now on the Google Play Store.
