Player First Games has announced that MultiVersus Season 5 will mark the end of the Warner Bros. platform fighting game, concluding on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. In a blog post on their website, the studio shared their decision to cease support for the crossover brawler. MultiVersus, which debuted on May 28 of the previous year, will kick off its final Season 5 on February 4, 2025, and run until the game's end date. At that point, online play will be discontinued, but players can continue to enjoy all their earned and purchased content offline through local gameplay and training modes.

"Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus," the MultiVersus team expressed in their message. "All of us at Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey."

Player First Games has also stated that real-money transactions for MultiVersus are no longer available as of today, although players can still use Gleamium and character tokens to access in-game content until the support ends on May 30. At that time, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

The closure of MultiVersus comes after Warner Bros. Discovery labeled the project as a significant disappointment. In a November financial call, the company revealed that MultiVersus underperformed, leading to a $100 million writedown in its games sector. This added to a total of $300 million in writedowns following the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in January. Last week, Variety reported that Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad is set to leave the company after a challenging 2024.

"We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” said chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels during the November call.

Despite the game's closure coming just days after its one-year anniversary, Season 5 promises to be a memorable farewell. Alongside the usual new content, players can look forward to new characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman joining the roster. Lola Bunny will be unlockable as a daily calendar reward, while Aquaman will be available through the battle pass, starting next week.
