Moonstone Deck Dominates Marvel SNAP
Quick Links
Moonstone, the latest addition to Marvel Snap, is an Ongoing card that mimics the text of your other 1-, 2-, and 3-Cost Ongoing cards in her lane. Often compared to an enhanced version of Mystique, Moonstone is a powerful yet fragile card, earning her the nickname "the Glass Cannon of Marvel SNAP." Building a strong deck around her can be challenging, but I've found that the Patriot and Tribunal setups are the most effective. This guide will help you optimize these decks and also offer insights on whether Moonstone is a worthy addition to your collection.
Moonstone (4–6)
Ongoing: Has the Ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-Cost cards here.
Series: Five (Ultra Rare)
Season: Dark Avengers
Release: January 15, 2025
The Best Deck for Moonstone
Moonstone shines when used as a supporting card rather than the main focus of your strategy. A reliable setup involves incorporating her into a Patriot-Ultron deck, focusing on her ability to copy one or two crucial Ongoing effects.
To build a Moonstone deck with Patriot and Ultron, include these cards: Brood, Mystique, Dazzler, Mockingbird, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Squirrel Girl, Blue Marvel, and Mister Sinister.
Card | Cost | Power |
---|---|---|
Moonstone | 4 | 6 |
Patriot | 3 | 1 |
Ultron | 6 | 8 |
Brood | 3 | 2 |
Ant-Man | 1 | 1 |
Mystique | 3 | 0 |
Iron Man | 5 | 0 |
Mister Sinister | 2 | 2 |
Dazzler | 2 | 2 |
Squirrel Girl | 1 | 2 |
Mockingbird | 6 | 9 |
Blue Marvel | 5 | 3 |
Moonstone Deck Synergies
- Start by setting up the board with Brood, Sinister, or Squirrel Girl to prepare for buffs.
- In one lane, play Patriot, Mystique, and Moonstone, ideally in that order.
- In the final round, deploy Ultron to fill all locations and maximize the buffs.
- Use Iron Man, Blue Marvel, and Mockingbird as backup cards to cover any power deficits in one or two lanes.
An Alternative Deck for Moonstone
For a more thrilling yet less consistent gameplay experience, pair Moonstone with Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. This setup uses Moonstone as a primary win condition alongside these cards: Onslaught, Living Tribunal, Mystique, Magik, Psylocke, Sera, Iron Man, Ravonna Renslayer, Captain America, Howard the Duck, and Iron Lad.
Card | Cost | Power |
---|---|---|
Moonstone | 4 | 6 |
Onslaught | 6 | 7 |
The Living Tribunal | 6 | 9 |
Mystique | 3 | 0 |
Ravonna Renslayer | 2 | 2 |
Iron Man | 5 | 0 |
Captain America | 3 | 3 |
Howard the Duck | 1 | 2 |
Magik | 3 | 2 |
Psylocke | 2 | 2 |
Sera | 5 | 4 |
Iron Lad | 4 | 6 |
Here’s the ideal play line:
- Use Psylocke to play Moonstone early.
- Play Onslaught, Mystique, and Iron Man into her lane.
- In the final round, use The Living Tribunal to distribute Power across all lanes.
In this setup, Psylocke and Sera help you play key cards earlier, while Magik extends the match, allowing for the play of Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. Captain America and Iron Lad serve as backup options if you don't draw the necessary cards in time.
Many players expected the Moonstone-Onslaught-Tribunal trio to become a staple in the metagame, with some even considering it her natural fit. However, few anticipated that Super Skrull would become her arch-nemesis in this setup.
How to Counter Moonstone
Moonstone is vulnerable to several counters, with Super Skrull being the most effective. Since her release, many players have added Super Skrull to their decks to counter Moonstone strategies. Enchantress, Rogue, and Echo also serve as effective counters, making Moonstone quite susceptible to disruption.
The main weakness of Moonstone is that she absorbs the abilities of cards in her own lane. Unless you protect her with cards like Invisible Woman, your opponent can easily neutralize that lane with Enchantress, Echo, or Rogue. Alternatively, they could play Super Skrull in another lane to undermine your strategy.
Is Moonstone Worth It?
Moonstone is definitely worth your Spotlight Keys for several reasons: 1) Her ability will become increasingly valuable as more Ongoing cards that synergize with her are released; 2) She's included in a Spotlight Cache with two other Series Five cards, reducing the risk of unsuccessful pulls; and 3) She brings a nostalgic feel to Marvel Snap, reminiscent of the days when pulling off crazy combos added massive numbers to the board. If you're looking to relive those moments, Moonstone is a card you'll want to add to your collection.
