The upcoming Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has taken a significant step forward by securing John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein as its writers. Known for their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Daley and Goldstein are set to bring their unique storytelling skills to the screenplay based on Hasbro's iconic board game. This exciting development was announced recently, signaling a fresh start for the long-discussed project.

The film will be produced by Margot Robbie under her production banner, LuckyChap, adding another layer of anticipation to the project. Daley and Goldstein's recent credits include not only Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves but also their original film Mayday, and they have contributed to the scripts of The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Their diverse experience in both writing and directing promises a dynamic take on the classic game.

The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been filled with twists and turns. Discussions about a Monopoly film date back to 2007 when Ridley Scott expressed interest in directing. In 2011, Scott collaborated with writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, but that version never materialized. Subsequent attempts in 2015 involved Lionsgate and Hasbro teaming up with writer Andrew Niccol, and in 2019, it was reported that actor Kevin Hart and director Tim Story would be involved. However, none of these efforts came to fruition.

The current push for the Monopoly movie gained momentum following Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro, which has revitalized the project. With Daley and Goldstein at the helm of the screenplay, fans of the game and cinema alike are hopeful that this version will successfully "pass Go" and deliver an entertaining and engaging film.
