Marvel, Robert Downey Jr. Hint at More Avengers: Doomsday Cast Reveals
Hot on the heels of announcing a further 26 cast members for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. have teased that they're not done yet. Yesterday, Marvel unveiled the cast for Avengers: Doomsday during a detailed livestream, confirming a long list of actors set to join Robert Downey Jr. in the superhero blockbuster, alongside the commencement of production.
Among the surprises, Channing Tatum will reprise his role as the fan-favorite X-Men character, Gambit. You can check out the complete Avengers: Doomsday cast list here.
However, several notable MCU stars were noticeably absent from the list. Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Chris Evans, who was rumored to appear in either Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars but later denied the report, are missing. Additionally, characters like Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and Rhodey from the MCU, as well as Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, and Jean Grey from the X-Men universe, were not included.
Fans were quick to voice their disappointment over the absence of some of their beloved characters. Yet, there might still be hope. In an Instagram post following the announcement, Robert Downey Jr., who will portray Doctor Doom after his iconic role as Iron Man, hinted at more surprises to come. He stated, "That's what u call a deep bench of talent. Actually, it's more like a row, but an extra long one... That must be it... right?"
Marvel further fueled speculation by commenting, "there's always room for more." The Russo Brothers, the film's directors, added, "It's time..."
It's clear that Marvel isn't finished revealing the Avengers: Doomsday cast. The question remains: who else could join the fray? Share your thoughts in the comments.
Earlier this month, the Russo brothers described Avengers 5 and 6 as a "new beginning," setting the stage for what's to come in Phase 7 of the MCU. Joe Russo elaborated, "The only thing I'll say about the movie is this: we love villains who think they're the heroes of their own stories. That's when they become three-dimensional and they become more interesting. When you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a three-dimensional, well-shaped character for the audience. That's where a lot of our focus is going."
Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following in May 2027. Before these, Thunderbolts* will premiere in May 2025, the TV series Ironheart in June, and Phase 6 will kick off with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
In October, Marvel Studios added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule: February 18, 2028; May 5, 2028; and November 10, 2028. Speculation suggests that one of these might be an X-Men film.
