Hasbro has unveiled exciting plans to bring the iconic card game, Magic: The Gathering, to screens worldwide. In collaboration with Legendary Entertainment, they aim to craft a comprehensive shared universe that will span both movies and television series, with the movie taking precedence as the initial focus.

"We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering," stated Legendary’s chairman of worldwide production. Legendary Entertainment, known for blockbuster hits like Dune and the modern Godzilla series including Godzilla vs Kong, as well as Detective Pikachu, is poised to bring the magical world of Magic: The Gathering to life.

While the details are still emerging, it appears that the upcoming movie and TV projects at Legendary will be separate from the previously announced Magic: The Gathering animated series set for Netflix. However, there remains a possibility that the plans have evolved, potentially integrating the animated series into this expansive shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering was originally created by Wizards of the Coast in 1993 and has since become one of the world's most beloved trading card games. Wizards of the Coast was acquired by Hasbro in 1999, marking a significant milestone in the game's history.

Hasbro is well-versed in adapting its popular products for the big screen, with a track record that includes franchises like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons and Dragons. The company is currently working on several new projects, such as additional G.I. Joe films, a new Power Rangers movie, and a film adaptation of Beyblade. This latest venture into the realm of Magic: The Gathering promises to be another thrilling addition to Hasbro's cinematic portfolio.
